Interview with Ben from the Starknet.id Domain Protocol-By the Chinese StarkNet Community (English Version)
Enjoy this written interview with Ben from StarknetID who has built a Starknet Domain Protocol.
This Interview was carried out by the StarkNet Chinese Community

The Team and their Experience
What did you do before entering the crypto-space? When did you begin your journey in Crypto? What’s been your first Web3 product?
Happy to be here, thx for this invitation. Well, I started my crypto journey in 2017 when I was a classic web developer that built front-end products for Saas companies. On top of that, I also created several e-commerce and niche websites that I sold after understanding that I wasn't really passionated about that kind of business.
Could you tell us more about your team? How did you, as founders, meet with each other and how did you come up with the idea of building Starknet.id?
I met Th0rgal on Twitter by asking him a question on Solidity, we quickly became friends and we made several Starknet hackathons during the 2021 summer, one of these hackathons was The Matchbox July Hackathon where we created Starknet ID as the on-chain passport on which you could write your social media on it (we finished at the 2nd place).
About Starknet.id
What roles will Starknet ID play in Starknet ecosystem? How will Starknet ID differ with other social identities?
Starknet ID aims to be the passport of starknet, whereas other web3 identities tend to specialize in a special identity niche like ENS for naming, PoApp for Proof of attendance, and Lens for Social Media … We believe that interoperability is key and want to integrate all these tools on one NFT that will gather the necessary data.
Is Starknet ID going to integrate with ENS? Could I mint the same name .stark domain on Starknet If I have an ENS on Ethereum?
Yes we’ll integrate with ENS by adding your ENS name on a starknet ID, no you won’t be able to mint the same but you’ll be able to bridge your .eth name on your starknet identity. Here is some info https://discuss.ens.domains/t/ccip-implementation-for-ens-on-starknet/15691/7
As a product, are there any edges/advantages to building communities by integrating with Starknet ID?
Improving your UX and benefitting from a marketing push of starknet ID and our Starknet Network effect.
Tech, business and challenges
6.What are the potential challenges and limitations of using StarkNet ID, and how does Starknet ID plan to address them?
Current challenges turn around the new technology implementations for cairo 1.0 release and regenesis. We’re working closely with Starkware, our new developer team, and the ecosystem members to address this challenge without problem!
How do you generate revenue for the protocol? How do you use them?
For the moment, we generate revenue from the protocol with the registration fee of .stark domain. In the future, we could add more income sources with different identity narratives such as KYC, PFP, etc..
The revenue is used for the development of the protocol and the Starknet ID labs.
How are the decisions made on the development of the protocol? Is it going to have a DAO?
For the moment the core team decides on the direction of the protocol. At some point, we’ll implement a DAO system but Starknet ID is still a very young protocol on a very young network (Starknet) so we’ll need time to grow the product and the community.
Roadmap and others
What new features or updates could we expect from Starknet ID in the future? What’s your long-term plan?
Our long-term plan is to be the passport of Starknet. In this goal we have 4 big topics around identity right now.
1 - Stark names
We want to continue to work on the network effect of our domains with integrations in the starknet ecosystem and features around names in general.
2 - Profile Pics
We want to introduce a global profile pic for every .stark holder and make it appear everywhere in the starknet ecosystem (as the names).
3 - Integrations with other Identity protocols
Make our starknet ID even more useful by integrating it with the biggest identity protocols outside of starknet (ENS, Lens …)
4 - Proof of personhood and KYC
Why do you choose Starknet? What are you most excited about Starknet?
I think it’ll be the best rollup tech by far (we have some clues with Starkex that is doing an excellent job for example). What excites me the most is the gaming ecosystem that I want to see growing.
Could you give some suggestions to developers who are interested in Starknet but don’t know how to start yet?
Yep, I’ll suggest following the small tutorials like starklings for example but more than that to also meet this amazing community by coming to hackathons, contributing to Open Source projects. In this sense, OnlyDust should be the best place to start your Starknet Journey as a developer!
